Fabric: light weight knit fabrics, for example cotton/lycra or jersey. The pattern is constructed for fabric with at least 30% stretch. Have a look at the stretch guide in the pattern and evaluate your fabric.
This is an estimate for pre-washed fabrics with 150 cm (60”) width. If you’re buying new fabric for your project, I recommend that you add 10-20 cm (4-8”) just in case. All pattern pieces (incl. flutter, pockets, lining) are included in this estimate.
Sewing machine with a stretch needle. An overlocker/serger can also be used for most of the steps, but you don’t need to have one.
Optional: Soft horsehair braid, 2,5 cm (1”) wide, for the hem. The length is specified in the fabric requirements chart.
Shank buttons, approx. 3-6, depending on size.
Round elastic or hairbands, approx. 1 mm (max 1/16”) wide. Or sew your own rouleau loops in jersey (included in pattern).
Aqua glue marker, not necessary but very useful.
Measure the child and choose a size based on her chest width and height. For a perfect fit I recommend that you choose a size which has a finished garment chest width that is 2 cm less than the child’s current chest width.
It’s perfectly all right to mix sizes and for example sew size 116 in the bodice, but size 128 in the skirt/pants, just don’t forget to also trace the waist/width from size 116 when tracing the pants/skirt (see info in Sewing Instructions).
Victoria is designed for fabrics with at least 30% stretch. There is a stretch guide in the pattern that you can use to evaluate if your fabric is suitable.
