Fabric: Light to medium weight knit such as jersey or college/french terry. The pattern is adapted for fabrics with at least 30% stretch. Have a look at the stretch guide in the pattern and evaluate your fabric.
This is an estimate of how much fabric you’ll need, based on 160 cm (63”) wide fabric that has not been pre-washed. The estimate is based on leggings with elastic at the waist and hemmed legs. For leggings with waistband and leg cuffs, the fabric requirement is about 10 cm (4”) less.
Elastic: 2,5 cm (1") wide, if you’d like elastic for the waist. In the chart above you can see how much elastic you’ll need. Remember that elastics can be of varying stretch and stiffness so use the estimate as a guide.
Sewing machine with a stretch needle. A serger can also be used for most of the steps, but a sewing machine is just as fine.
Choose variant 1 (regular) if the child doesn’t wear a diaper, and variant 2 if the child has a diaper. Variant 1 has a close fit. Variant 2 is designed to allow for room for the diaper and to be higher over the behind.
Choose a size based on the child’s height. If you know that the child is slim you can size down on width but keep the length, i.e. combining 2 sizes. If you’d like a more loose fit, you can size up 1-2 sizes on width, but keep the length.
