We're coming really close to the release of the loose fit kids' pants Tyra & Todd! Hope you're as excited as we are!
We know many like to prepare for the release by gathering fabric and supplies. So here you can read about recommended fabrics and an estimate of the requirements.
Fabric
Knit fabric with 20-60% stretch and medium to medium-heavy weight (approx. 200-340 gr/m2). We recommend for example college, french terry, cotton jersey, ponte di roma, knit jacquard, and other pants fabrics with stretch.
If you’re sewing the pants with pant cuffs, make sure to use ribb fabric for the cuffs.
Soft elastic for the waistband (both variants). Approx. 3 cm (1 1/8”) shorter than the child’s waist width. See length in the chart above. The width depends on the size you’re sewing:
Size 74-98: 2,5 cm (1”)
Size 104-122: 3 cm (1 1/8”)
Size 128-140: 3,5 cm (1 3/8”)
Size 146-152: 4 cm (1 5/8”)
The fabric requirements above is an estimation for 150 cm (60”) wide fabrics, not preshrunk. We recommend you to add 20 cm (8”) extra if you’re purchasing new fabric for this project. You should also account for shrinkage, and add extra if you want to pattern match.
The elastic requirement is also an estimation, since the stretch may vary between different elastic bands.
