Sew thermal underwear

Sew thermal underwear

A few weeks ago I decided to sew some thermal underwear for my 6-year old daughter. They're usually quite expensive to buy and I knew I could easily sew them myself (aah the feeling!).

I already had the perfect fabric, merino wool in a cute light pink color from Stoffbutikken. It is so amazingly soft!

For sewing patterns, I chose to use Lo leggings for the pants, and Lilly & Liam sweater for the top. Both of these patterns are unisex and will fit perfectly for boys as well.

Choosing size was a bit difficult since the recommended stretch percentage in fabric for both these patterns is approx. 40%, and the merino wool had 80% stretch.

If you're unsure about your fabric's stretch percentage, use the stretch guide available in all our patterns.

My daughter's current size is 122 (although waist width is a bit larger), so I traced size 122 in Lilly & Liam, lengthened to 128, for some growing room. And with the leggings I traced size 128 in length and 140 in width, since I wanted them to be a bit more roomy than leggings usually are, and also with some growing room in length.

We are both so happy with these thermal underwear, they will help keep her warm on cold winter days! The fit turned out exactly how I wanted it. It's loose, but not too loose :)
